Our Trip to Cornwall - Part 2

Welcome to Part 2 of my blog on our trip to Cornwall.
Our 1st day had come to a close and just as we settled in our room, the storm had well and truly arrived with heavy showers. Fair to say we’ve not experienced such fierce winds with heavy downpour living in London.  The plan was to visit St. Ives the next day, depending on how we were getting on find some other nearby places to visit too.

Unfortunately the weather gods did not show mercy on us. The strong winds and torrential rainfall continued on till almost mid-day imprisoning us inside the hotel. We were out of our hotel in a flash soon the rain stopped a little and were in St. Ives in under an hour. The sun just creeping out of the clouds, brisk winds blowing on our face, the panoramic view of city with the houses on hills, the narrow roads and pathways, suffice to say it was a view to die for. It just reminded me of my recent trip to Shimla in India.

The continuous drizzle did not dampen our spirits as we made our way to the beach and had a nice stroll. Having visited the place before my wife knew exactly where to go, shops to visit all along sharing the stories of the various pubs & restaurants she went to during her last trip with her friends and the antics they got up to. It was so nice to see a city filled with individual shops rather than the shops you see every day. Each shop had a character specialising in art, antiques, precious stones or local souvenirs. The owners were so welcoming, chatting away listening to your travel stories and sharing theirs. It was a refreshing experience in itself. We had made couple of rounds walking down the streets managing a few bargains in the process.
Being winter time, the day light started to fade away very soon and the continuous bad weather did not help the cause. The evening was still young. We couldn’t pass the opportunity to enjoy a few cocktails at the famous Firehouse Bar & Grill. A place I would strongly recommend to visit. Little did we know that St. Ives usually have a huge costume party on the beach for New Year’s Eve. Always do some research about the place you are visiting folks, you never know what you might miss out on! We sure missed out on that as we were heading back to London for New Year’s Eve.

That brought day 2 of our trip to a close. It was now time to plan day 3. We only had ½ day on our hands to catch final glimpse of Cornwall before making our way back home. Our next stop was going to be the city of Falmouth. Compared to the other places we had visited, Falmouth was a bigger city and the beauty of Cornwall still shone through with the architecture of the buildings and the beautiful harbour with all the ships, boats and ferries. Another day, another stroll along the beaches of Cornwall. Before we realised, it was time to say good bye and make our way down to London to welcome the New Year with our family and friends.
As much as I enjoyed visiting all the places, this trip to Cornwall was not about that. It was about being impulsive, planning a last minute trip, not having a defined agenda, exploring places, just driving around enjoying the nature, going where the road takes us and not worrying about getting lost. It was about realising that it is sometimes OK to not know where you are going, what you are going to be doing, making friends with strangers, getting out of that comfort zone and opening yourselves to a different way of enjoying life.

For this I only have my lovely wife to thank for. Thank you Vaishali for the amazing experience. Love you loads!! xxx
